Inspiring Real Adventures
Xander didn’t actually plan on quitting his job that day. Sure, he’s thought about it, like everyone does. His wife certainly didn’t think he would do it.
But when he had yet another ‘where do you see yourself in 5 years’ meeting at the financial firm, he knew the answer wasn’t at a desk. He quit on the spot and decided to chase his dream.
You see, Xander’s been fishing since he was a little kid. And he’s pretty good at it too. He has been angling in provincial teams since he was 13 and he loves sharing his passion with anyone interested.
After everyone recovered from the shock of him quitting his job, he started his own company and named it after his late father’s boat: Zoo Look Fishing.
Most days he takes enthusiasts on angling trips: fishing for specific species or specific sizes and he preaches catch-and-release. In fact, Xander hasn’t killed a fish in more than 3 years and he is worried about what holiday makers are doing to the fish stocks over December holidays.
In 2019 he started sharing his experiences and techniques on YouTube. The channel exploded and is now more than just a marketing tool. He also coaches the under 21 Protea Angling team. He wants these kids to have somebody to look up to, somebody to show them the ropes and just someone to have their back.
Walking into Xander de Beer’s makeshift YouTube studio in his garage, past all the rods, medals, spinners and tackle, there’s a big poster that catches my eye: Ignoring your passion is slow suicide. Never ignore what your heart pumps for. Mould your career around your lifestyle, not your lifestyle around your career
What a dude.
